Time to take an initial step. But first, a few acknowledgments regarding this project.
My son Eric provides invaluable information regarding all things ‘internet’ and ‘cyber’. Additionally, he has been a beacon of encouragement during the process of digitizing cassette tapes which document Cafe Jazz Society performances. Without his help, this project would never have developed.
My daughter-in-law, the writer Denise Breeden-Ost, has kindly taken time to read and edit my verbiage. Her suggestions always improve the original draft and my gratitude is vast.
Teddy, Ron Brashear’s wife, took most of the pictures used on the site. (Unless noted otherwise, the pictures are hers, and used with permission.) She brought her camera to gigs and captured action shots of the players in performance. After developing the film, usually she gave the subjects a copy of their picture. I have asked other players to look for and send me any photos they find.
Ron Markman, an artist now living on the East Coast, was a fan of The Faculty Five while teaching at IU. He incorporated several images of the band into his projects. Cafe Jazz Society used one of those images (a wooden template of Karl Schuessler, created in honor of his retirement from the Sociology Department) as cover art for our commercial cd in 1999. Another - a three-dimensional piece rendered from a sketch Ron made at one of Karl’s birthday party musicales - now hangs on a wall in George Bohrnstedt’s house. Thanks to Ron for permission to use photographs of these works on cafejazz.org.
I also intend to post music and information about some of my friends who had careers in the music business. Roger Pemberton, Jerry Tyree, and perhaps a few others not yet determined. Many thanks to both Roger, and also Jerry Tyree's widow Nancy, for permission to post their music and stories.
The art incorporated into cafejazz.org is mine unless noted otherwise. Many thanks to Pixelmator.
